Waldorf Fire Department was among 73 in Minnesota to receive grants from the State Fire Marshal Division to clean carcinogens from equipment.
The Minnesota Department of Public Safety, through the fire marshal office, awarded approximately $600,000 in December to fire departments throughout the state. Waldorf's department received $8,000 for the purchase of a special gear washer. Thirty departments received funding for such specialized gear washers, 27 departments received funding for gear dryers, and 16 departments received funding for both.
"Minnesota's firefighters put their lives on the line to save others," State Fire Marshal Bruce West said in a Dec. 27 press release. "This equipment is necessary to ensure the safety of Minnesota firefighters."
