Person dies after being rescued from Billings house fire

A person pulled from a basement fire near downtown Billings on Thursday has died Emergency crews were called to the home, on the 2200 block of Ninth Avenue North, shortly after 1 p.m. after a person spotted smoke coming from the basement and reported somebody might be inside. "Firefighters were able to get into the basement very quickly," said Billings Fire Department Chief Paul Dextras. "They made a great stop on the fire and were able to find the victim very quickly." About 10 minutes after arriving, firefighters pulled a person from the one-story residence. They placed the person on a stretcher near a side door and could be seen performing CPR for several minutes before the person was loaded into an American Medical Response ambulance and taken to St. Vincent Healthcare. At 6:30 p.m., Billings Fire Marshal Jaime Fender announced that the victim had died.
