A fast-moving fire destroyed a Darby family’s home and nearly killed an elderly man Sunday. By the time volunteer firefighters arrived at the home on Water Street at about 8 a.m., the doublewide mobile home was fully engulfed in flames, said Darby Volunteer Fire Department Captain Chad Harrell. “It was absolutely a very quick fire,” Harrell said. “I don’t live far from that house. When I went outside, I could see huge columns of black smoke and I could hear explosions.” A couple and their three children lived in the home with the children’s grandfather. The elderly man had to be pulled out a window after becoming trapped by the fire. Harrell said he sustained major burns from his waist up and was transported to a burn center in Salt Lake City.
