Fighting fires is always a battle, but volunteer fire departments across the country can also struggle with man power. "We're a volunteer department so it's tough to get people," Chief Michael Deshayes with the Black Eagle Volunteer Fire Department said. "It's on their own time and they don't get paid for it, so we do the best with what we've got." The Black Eagle Fire Department currently has around 28 people, which is the maximum number they can have. On top of that members of the department work other jobs, so not all 28 members are always available. Luckily. new technology is helping with man power. The technology sends a message to firefighter's cellphones, letting them know who is heading out. If need be, other departments can also help out. "We've got mutual aid agreement with other departments in the county and as well with the city, so that really helps us figure out who we need to get coming and how many we have here," Deshayes said.
