Butte firefighters responded late Saturday afternoon to a home on fire on the 1200 block of East Second Street after police spotted smoke in the area. That’s according to Fire Captain Marc Lee, who said that firefighters could observe heavy smoke and flames in the back of the home and in its attic within minutes of their arrival. Lee said the fire was “substantial,” noting that many of the home’s furnishings and walls had caught fire. Lee said that no one was inside the home at the time of the fire, which took firefighters about 15 minutes to put out. Lee said the cause and origin of the fire were unknown as of Saturday afternoon.
