The City of Glendive is on the verge of a major restructuring of its fire department following a special Personnel Committee meeting Monday afternoon.
As previously reported, Councilman and Fire Department Captain Rhett Coon asked the Personnel Committee to consider replacing outgoing Fire Chief George Lane with a limited part-time manager and part-paid chief, turning over building inspection to the state and forming an automatic aid arrangement with the West Glendive Fire Department.
Under the plan the part-time manager would function much like the current co-directors of the Glendive Ambulance Service – putting in a few hours a week to manage scheduling, payroll and budgets – while the part-paid chief would handle fire incidents and training.
“Now is a good time to take a look at the needs of Glendive,” he told the committee two weeks ago.
