It's been 73 years since rot doomed the fire tower in Neihart.
However, a local group is trying to bring back the slice of Little Belt history.
The Monarch Neihart Historical Group, a nonprofit, has partnered with the town of Neihart to construct a replica of the Neihart fire bell tower.
The original tower had a bell used to alert residents of a disaster — ready for a fire, a mining mishap or a train accident.
The Meneely Bell Company in West Troy, N.Y., manufactured Neihart's bell in 1894.
The 30-foot bell tower was near Belt Creek in south Neihart, near the original firehose house.
In 1945, after more than 50 years of service, the tower was torn down because of rot on the lower legs.
