In March, when Charity Stephens saw a PT Cruiser wedged underneath a a semitrailer on I-90, she wondered for a moment if the crash scene was active.
Stephens was already slowing to take the Zoo Drive exit when she approached the crash and she was already running late for a Saturday gig checking car seat safety for American Medical Response in Billings.
There was still dust settling, though, and Stephens saw a man among the people gathering in front of the crash with the blank look of shock on his face. Stephens pulled over.
She said she always does when she sees a crash without responders.
"Are you alright, were you in this car?" she said she asked the man. He was still stunned, but mustered an answer. He told her he wasn't in the car, but two people were.
