In a day and age marked by geographic mobility, a family business that spans multiple generations can be hard to find.
But that isn’t so for one ambulance company in Butte, where grandchildren are already getting a taste of what a career might be like as a first responder.
In 1981 Mike and Tricia McGree took over A-1 Ambulance in Butte, and since then they’ve been making the business a family affair.
The company responds to calls in Butte and the surrounding areas. The calls vary, involving everything from patient transfers and medical emergencies to one tragic event in 2009, when an airplane crashed into Butte’s Holy Cross Cemetery.
Simply put, the company has been with Butte during some of its most tragic moments, but also during joyful times, such as during the birth of a new child.
