Wrightsville Beach Fire Chief Frank Smith announced his retirement today after 29 years service on the department. Smith, who has been the town’s fire chief since 2003, made the announcement to town department heads via email. He said his final day will be Jan. 31, 2016. In the email, Smith said that it had been a “great honor” to lead the department, but “after careful consideration of a variety of personal and professional circumstances, I have reached the difficult decision that it is time for me to retire from the fire service.” “During my remaining time with the fire department, I am committed to doing whatever I can to facilitate a smooth and efficient transition of leadership. I am confident that the fire department is well positioned to continue to provide exemplary service to the citizens of Wrightsville Beach,” he wrote in the email.
