This year, Wake County is recognizing Fire Prevention Week and Race to Quit, NC Week, an initiative to encourage residents to kick the habit when it comes to smoking from Monday, October 5, through Friday, October 9, 2015. During Fire Prevention Week, Wake County citizens are urged to stay informed and practice fire prevention tactics in their homes. The theme of the week is "hear the beep where you sleep," to focus on the importance of having working smoke alarms in the home. "We want the citizens of Wake County to be safe and able to do all they can to prevent fire damage," said John Callaway, Wake County Deputy Fire Marshal. "We cannot stress enough the importance of having working smoke alarms." Wake County is also partnering with more than 50 other organizations to launch Race to Quit, NC during Fire Prevention Week as well. The Race to Quit, NC campaign raises awareness about the resources and organizations available to help citizens effectively quit smoking and tobacco use. Participants are encouraged to share their stories and follow the campaign on social media using the hashtag #RaceToQuitNC.
