Firefighters conducted a real-world training drill Saturday morning. About 20 firefighters of the New Hope Fire Department put out a controlled blaze at a donated home on Belt Drive, near Redbud Drive. The 700-square foot, one-story home was donated from a member of the community. It contained a living room, kitchen and two bedrooms. “The house is vacant and in disrepair so they donated it to us and we get to use it for real world training,” said fire chief Matt Young. “We do this so people get good time putting out fires in a real scenario.” As a safety measure, the furniture in the home was removed and replaced with wood pallets and straw. Firefighters conducted about 10 drills before the home was burned down.
