Three people were taken to the hospital Wednesday after a vehicle that was reportedly carjacked crashed while running from police.
Just before 6 p.m., officers spotted a car they say was taken in a carjacking near the intersection of Rozzelles Ferry Road and West Trade Street. The officers attempted to pull the vehicle over, but the driver refused to stop.
The vehicle then struck two other vehicles while running from police and eventually crashed near the intersection of Brookeshire Boulevard and Idaho Drive.
The two people in the suspect vehicle were taken to Carolinas Medical Center, while a passenger in one of the vehicles they hit was taken to an area hospital as a precaution. All three are expected to be OK.
Anthony Melvin, a neighbor living near the crash site, said he had seen other crashes along Brookshire, but never anything like Wednesday's accident.
“I just got home from work and this is what I come home and see. (Shakes head) I just hope everything is going to be alright with everybody,” said Melvin.
Police have not released any names or possible charges.
Traffic on Brookshire Blvd was diverted onto Idaho Dr while crews worked the scene. Police said the closure would last several hours.
