Debris ignited from a propane torch is what sparked the fire at First Baptist Church in Mount Holly last month, the Mount Holly Fire Department said Thursday. The blaze broke out July 21 at the church, located in the 300 block of S. Main Street. Fire investigators say workers were using a propane torch and a patch to repair a roof leak when debris was ignited and hit the roof. Lightning in the area was excluded as the cause of the fire, firefighters say. Heavy flames could be seen coming from the roof of the three-story building.
