An early morning fire at the Days Inn on N. Marine Boulevard is under investigation.
It happened just before 8 a.m. at the hotel in Jacksonville.
At approximately 7:51 AM on Monday, August 29th, Jacksonville Public Safety personnel responded to a report of a fire at Days Inn, 505 N. Marine Boulevard.
When Jacksonville Public Safety personnel arrived on the scene, they found heavy smoke and fire coming from a room in the rear of the one story hotel. All occupants were evacuated safely while utilities to the building were turned off. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire, preventing it from entering the attic space of the building.
Traffic was also affected by the fire since Henderson Drive (from Marine Boulevard to Louise Avenue) was shut down for approximately two hours during the emergency response.
“It was fortunate that most of the occupants of the rented rooms had already departed for the day,” said Jacksonville Fire and Emergency Services Deputy Chief Spencer Lee.
Displaced hotel occupants were moved to vacant rooms in the hotel.
Property damage estimates are currently underway.
