Fayetteville police arrested a 32-year-old Spring Lake woman in connection with a fire that damaged a law firm in March. Meredith Renee Kerr, of the 90 block of Hallmark Drive, was charged Saturday with burning or attempting to burn other buildings. Kerr’s bail was set at $25,000, according to an arrest warrant. She was not listed as an inmate in the Cumberland County Detention Center on Saturday. Fayetteville firefighters responded to a blaze at the Downing & Downing Law Firm on March 7. The firm is in the 200 block of Dick Street near the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office and the Cumberland County Courthouse. Firefighters found flames pouring out of the second floor about 6:11 p.m. Fayetteville Assistant Fire Chief Richard Bradshaw said firefighters got the blaze under control about 7 p.m. The building sustained extensive fire and smoke damage, Bradshaw said. The fire’s cause was unknown at the time.
