Follow-up: Sheriff says 2 found dead after Onslow County fire had been shot

Authorities say two men who were found dead following a weekend fire at a home northwest of Jacksonville died of gunshot wounds. Onslow County Sheriff Hans Miller tells local news outlets that the two men found late Saturday night have been identified as 33-year-old Cody Smith of Richlands and 43-year-old Gregory Pearce of Jacksonville. Autopsies were performed on the victims Monday. Authorities are treating the deaths as homicides. The investigation is continuing. No arrests have been made. Both police and firefighters responded Saturday after a report of a fire at the home.
