The new Interstate 73 project is set to finish in May but emergency crews are already preparing for more calls. The new road will run through northwest Guilford County. It will be the first major road near towns like Summerfield and Oak Ridge. Recently emergency personnel went through training to learn how to respond to calls on an interstate. The Summerfield Fire Department said they practiced how to position their truck and cones to block off part of the road in case of an accident. The fire engine is used to keep first responders safe while they work and to alert drivers that something happened. They worked with fire departments from Sedgefield, Oak Ridge and Stokesdale as well as North Carolina Highway Patrol.
