Fire officials responded to a house fire late Saturday night in Wilmington. Units were called to the 1000 block of South Sixth Street around 11:30 p.m. When they arrived they saw smoke coming from the front door Officials said a bulk of the fire had had been knocked down by Wilmington Police Department personnel using a garden hose from the exterior of the home. Upon making entry, fire crews found a small amount a fire. It was determined that the house did not have power and a candle by a window caused the flames. The candle ignited curtains and blinds before the fire spread to the window casing. Everyone in the home made it out safely. The fire caused an estimated $5,000 in damage to the home and its contents.
