Firefighters in Catawba County are trying to determine what started a house fire shortly after 5 a.m. Tuesday. The fire heavily damaged a home just west of Newton. Four fire departments responded to the fire on Grace Church Road. Crews said the two people inside the home woke up to smoke, but made it out safely.
