A man who was reported missing Tuesday while swimming in Wrightsville Beach has been identified as Chuck Kuebler. Wrightsville Beach police said they received a call Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. about a missing swimmer. Kuebler's family said he left home around 7:45 a.m. to go swimming at Wrightsville Beach. Kuebler's wife later located his vehicle in the parking lot of Roberts Grocery on North Lumina Avenue after learning he did not show up for work. Chief Dan House with the Wrightsville Beach Police Department said the 58-year-old was last seen swimming Tuesday morning near Beach Access 33. Wrightsville Beach Ocean Rescue, Wrightsville Beach police, and the US Coast Guard Guard conducted a search of the water and beach strand around Wrightsville Beach and neighboring islands. Fire Chief Glen Rogers said the Coast Guard took over the search Tuesday night and at the first sign of light on Wednesday Wrightsville Beach crews will pick back up their search efforts.
