A cabin belonging to a camp counselor in Cameron was destroyed in a fire Friday night, the Aberdeen Times reported.
Firefighters responded to a call for a structure fire at 215 Cameron Camp Road just before 10:30 p.m. The call was made by a Central Electric power company employee who had been called to the area for a power outage.
Officials on scene told the Aberdeen Times that power company workers had received an outage call for Boys Camp Road just before 9:30 p.m. and while looking for the source of the power outage, the workers discovered a cabin burning just off the road after they had entered the gate leading to the Cameron Boys Camp on Cameron Camp Road.
The first emergency crews on scene reported that the building had already sustained extensive damage and the structure was destroyed.
The cabin was home to one of the counselors at the Cameron Boys Camp, which is part of the Baptist Children’s Homes of N.C., the Aberdeen Times reported. The building and everything inside were completely destroyed in the fire.
Because of the rural location of the cabin, water had to be hauled to the fire using several fire trucks operating a tanker shuttle in order to keep the primary engine supplied with water, according to the Aberdeen Times.
