Part of a longtime barbecue restaurant was damaged in a fire late Tuesday night, causing it to close. The fire was reported just before midnight at Stamey's on Battleground at 2812 Battleground Ave. near Martinsville Road. No injuries were reported. Firefighters arrived to heavy smoke and were able to get the fire under control within 30 minutes, Greensboro fire officials said. Most of the fire was confined to the front of the business. The fire was accidental and caused by a malfunction in a drink dispenser, fire officials said. More than 40 firefighters and nine fire units were called to the scene. Multiple lanes of Battleground Avenue were closed for about two hours. It's unknown when the restaurant will reopen. Stamey's was founded in 1930 and has a second location near the Greensboro Coliseum.
