Fires that destroyed a mobile home, camper and storage building at the end of Barefoot Lane in Millers Creek are being investigated as arson, said Niki Hamby, a fire investigator with the Wilkes Sheriff’s Office. Hamby said the Millers Creek and Cricket fire departments were dispatched to 198 Barefoot Lane at about 12:40 a.m. Tuesday and found the three structures burning. He said it appeared that a fire was set in the storage building and it spread to the nearby camper because a man who lives nearby said that at one point the fire in the storage building was more advanced.
