A house in Pinehurst was damaged in a fire Sunday morning after being hit by lightning.
The incident happened just after 10 a.m. in the Pinewild subdivision at 60 Pinewild Drive, according to the Aberdeen Times.
The fire was sparked after lightning struck a tree beside the home. The lightning bolt also went into the house along the fireplace and chimney, which ignited the home on fire, according to officials with the Pinehurst Fire Department.
A resident was home at the time of the fire and was able to get out of the house uninjured.
Seven different fire stations were called to battle the two-alarm fire during the middle heavy rain. Officials said that the home received extensive damage in the fire and displaced the residents from the home.
Firefighters were on the scene of this fire until almost 1 p.m.
Responding to this incident were units with Pinehurst Fire Department, Aberdeen Fire & Rescue, Southern Pines Fire & Rescue, Pinebluff Fire Department, Eastwood Fire Department, West End Fire & Rescue, Seven Lakes Fire Department, Moore County EMS, and the Pinehurst Police Department.
