New Hanover County firefighters have to move out of one of their existing stations so the department can take a step forward. The county's planning board Thursday will hear a request for a special-use permit from the county's fire department, which is asking to temporarily move around late spring from the Ogden Fire Station at 7375 Market St. to a Cape Fear Public Utility Authority-owned plot on Old Oak Road near Groundwater Way. The county will not pay the utility authority for use of the land. County Fire Chief Donnie Hall said the temporary move is necessary so the existing fire station can be torn down and an estimated $4.6 million replacement can be built in its stead.
