When it comes to winning world competitions, the Winston-Salem firefighters are on fire.
With eight World Championships under their belt, local firefighters smoked the competition earlier this year to qualify for an international competition in Montgomery, Ala., this week.
They will compete against hundreds of teams from the U.S., Canada, Europe, South America, South Africa and New Zealand in the World Championships of the Scott Firefighter Combat Challenge, which simulates the physical demands of real-life firefighting. “It’s fun to see how our skills stack up against departments from other countries in real-life scenarios,” Captain Chaz Browning said. “It’s a big brotherhood, so by now, I can pretty much go to any state and know a fireman. That’s pretty neat.”
