About 400 staff and students at Weaverville Elementary School were evacuated Thursday morning after a fire at the school.
The cafeteria staff reported the fire just before 9:45 a.m. Thursday. Fire officials say crews were on scene within three minutes.
The Buncombe County Fire Marshal says it appears the control wiring in an oven sparked the fire.
No one was hurt and the Weaverville Fire Chief says that's largely thanks to the quick response of everyone inside the school.
Chief Ted Williams, Weaverville Fire Department, "so proud of the school and the staff. The children, they were all evacuation at our arrival. The cafeteria staff gave us clear direction as to where the fire was located. Made it a lot easier for us to get straight to the fire. Everything just went as perfect as it could, under the circumstances."
Students were allowed back in class around 10:30 a.m. The principal says lunch is being delivered from the school nutrition program and maintenance staff are bringing in fans to help control the smoke odor.
The principal adds that parents were notified through two phone messages.
