Families and loved ones of thirteen fallen first responders gathered Saturday for the dedication of the Public Safety Memorial in Onslow County.
Nearly 400 people were in attendance as County Manager Jeffrey Hudson read off the names of the thirteen men, who paid the ultimate sacrifice protecting those they served.
Captain Jimmy Davis of the Jacksonville Fire Department and his family were recognized for his father’s service to the White Oak Volunteer Fire Department. Chief Jimmy Davis, Sr. died on a fire call in 2009.
“I’m just proud, proud to be his son,” Davis said. “I’m proud his name’s on there. I’m very blessed my dad was recognized today.”
For the Davis family and the families of the other fallen first responders, the memorial represents a place to go and remember the sacrifices made by those men. The memorial is named, “Reflected In Our Eyes.”
