Asheville city leaders could decide Tuesday to replace a firetruck that was totaled when it hit a business on New Leicester Highway earlier this year.
According to the crash report, the driver of the firetruck was on his way to a call Jan. 7 when he lost control after the truck hit ice and slid the length of nearly two football fields. The truck hit the Kitchens Unlimited building before sliding another 12 feet. The report indicated the driver was going 40 mph in a 45 mph zone. During Tuesday's Asheville City Council meeting, leaders will consider spending $600,000 to replace the truck. Of that, $91,933 would come from the insurance company. The remainder would come from the city's general fund.
