Cape Fear Community College and the New Hanover County Firefighters Association held a public safety college over the weekend. The event was held at CFCC's North Campus from Thursday through Sunday. Firefighters from across the state will traveled to the Wilmington area to participate in over 51 classes including fire inspections, safety and survival, and fire officer leadership. Chris Nelson is the Fire Rescue Training Coordinator at CFCC. He said the training is a great tool for smaller departments. "Some of our smaller volunteer departments may not have a large operating fund, but they can come here this weekend and get training that's affordable," Nelson said. "It's excellent training, probably some of the best they can get in the state."
