The Town of Beaufort celebrated the opening of it's new fire station with a ribbon cutting on Wednesday. Town leaders, fire fighters, community members and well wishers from neighboring communities came out to the much anticipated event. Fire Station 1 is now located at 506 Live Oak St., next to Pine Street. The 12,500 square foot fire station replaces the old one at 900 Cedar Street, which was deteriorating. It is currently up for sale. The building was also ill-equipped to handle the growing department, time sensitive work-flow and needs of staff during working hours. The new station can accommodate 15-20 people at a time working shifts. Fire fighters will now have more space with an upgrade from three to six bunk beds, a larger kitchen with an outside grill and an entertainment room.
