City council members are prepared to spend about $1.1 million over the next several months to purchase two new trucks for the Statesville Fire Department.
Council discussed the need during a meeting Monday and decided to vote on March 6 to approve the budget amendment allocating the funds for the purchase of the first truck.
Also on Monday, council voted to join the Houston-Galveston Area Council Cooperative Purchasing Program, meaning it will not have to participate in a public bidding process for a new truck.
If the vote goes through on March 6, the first new truck is expected to be delivered in December, with the first payment of 50 percent of total cost – $240,000 – due around September when the chassis is delivered to the manufacturer, according to Interim Fire Chief Gary Styers.
