This year marks 10 years since nine Charleston firefighters lost their lives in a furniture warehouse fire. To show their support, all month long the Greensboro Fire Department is participating in the Charleston 9 Challenge. Throughout the month the goal is for each fire unit to visit nine different homes or businesses to check and install smoke alarms. "It is a proven fact that smoke alarms in homes is the easiest way to keep your family safe from fire. Early detection is key to your family getting out safe and no one getting injured," said Capt. Michael Page, Greensboro Fire Department.
