A propane tank inside a Western North Carolina country club exploded Monday night, destroying part of the building, according to Cashiers Fire Chief Randy Dillard. Dillard said firefighters were called around 11 p.m. to The Country Club of Sapphire Valley in Jackson County. Dillard said about 15 minutes after they arrived, a propane tank inside the building exploded. Some of the firefighters were knocked to the ground by the explosion, Dillard said. Dillard said people up to 15 miles away reported hearing the explosion. Half of the building, including the kitchen and dining room, were destroyed, Dillard said.
