Final preparations are underway for the Richard Sheltra Memorial 10K, 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run and Walk being held in Pineville on April 29.
The event coincides with the one-year anniversary of firefighter Richard Sheltra’s death. He died on April 30, 2016, while fighting a three-alarm fire in Pineville. Channel 9 was invited behind the scenes Wednesday as organizers finalized plans at Pineville’s fire station. Walter Broadhurst worked closely with Sheltra and believes the run is a fitting tribute to his friend.
“He was a big fitness guy. He worked out every day. So it makes sense to have a run to push everybody to come and run in his name,” Broadhurst said.
