Completion of a first-of-its-kind regional emergency center will be celebrated with a ribbon-cutting and community gathering on April 3. The Regional Emergency Communications Center serving Dare, Hyde and Tyrrell counties and the Dare County Emergency Operations Center was built on Airport Road across from the North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island. By consolidating 911 communications for the three counties, the project was eligible for grant funding from the state’s E911 fund, which contributed over half of project’s cost of about $14.1 million. It is the first facility in North Carolina handing emergency communications for three counties.
