A Statesville man woke up to the sound of explosions early Thursday morning, smelled smoke, and then went outside to find his car on fire, according to the Statesville Fire Department.
The resident, Fnu Saepudin, was not injured, Fire Chief Spencer Lee said. The fire happened around 4:30 a.m. at 2021 Newton Drive.
There were “heavy fire conditions” at the carport when firefighters arrived. The carport is attached to the house.
