A new road means a faster response for residents needing emergency services in Leland. Over the summer, crews finished building a one-mile stretch of roadway connecting the Mallory Creek neighborhood to Brunswick Forest, essentially creating a shortcut from Highway 133 to Highway 17. On average, emergency response times have dropped by about 2 minutes for people living in the Leland city limits since the Mallory Creek Extension was finished. For people living in Brunswick Forest, Leland Fire Chief John Grimes said the improvement is more drastic, and emergency response time has been cut in half.
