Preliminary plans for a 30,000-square foot police and fire training facility to be built near the Creekwood community have been submitted for review. According to online records, the plans, which were submitted yesterday, will go before the technical review committee on Oct. 26. The City of Wilmington spent just over $1 million last year to purchase 46 acres of land between the Creekwood community and Maides Park from the Wilmington Housing Authority. "There still is activity out here, clearly, and to have our officers working out here, and actually working out of the substation up here can only lead to better community relations, because we want to be able to interact with our folks," Wilmington Police Chief Ralph Evangelous said when the training center was first announced in June 2016.
