The town has a new fire chief: James Todd. Todd replaces Chief Tony Roof, who will retire Nov. 17. The Guilford County town picked Todd after a nationwide search that attracted 37 applicants, said Ben Baxley, town manager. Todd has nearly 20 years of fire service experience. He worked for the Newport News Fire Department in Virginia, rising through the ranks from firefighter and paramedic to captain, the position he held when he retired. He holds undergraduate degrees in fire science and occupational safety and health from Columbia Southern University, and is pursuing a master's degree.
