One of McDowell County’s long-standing fire departments is celebrating 40 years of service with plans to relocate to a new station.
The Crooked Creek Fire Department, established in Sept. 1977, is in the process of moving to a new location at the intersection of Bat Cave Road and Mt. Hebron Road.
The development of the new station began approximately two years, with the need to expand space and accommodate changing apparatuses, according to Crooked Creek FD Chief Steven Lytle.
“We’ve been needing to do this for a while, between needing space for our vehicles and meeting requirements by the state,” said Lytle. “Anytime you do a new project, it’s going to take some time, especially something like this.”
