City Councilwoman Marikay Abuzuaiter needed several minutes Wednesday and some help getting into her 60 pounds of firefighting gear.
By comparison, veteran firefighters have just seconds to get into that same gear and race to a fire.
Once finally in her air tank, helmet and uniform, the at-large councilwoman busted through a door with a large, steel tool and ran into a smoking building as part of the inaugural Greensboro Fire Department's Fire Ops 101 event. Participants got to try their hand at firefighting at the city's public safety training facility on Church Street.
