County commissioners declined to reconsider funding Monday for six local fire departments, after making a compromise in June. Mondays’ vote shot down a request for $36,000 by the departments.
Three of the six departments came before the the Surry County Board of Commissioners asking for $12,000 each to fund one employee.
The county board debated raising the tax rates for several fire districts in the spring. When it came time to finalize the budget in June, the board was split on whether to approve any increases.
