A Randolph County contingent laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Washington, D.C., on Aug. 26.
They were members of the Randolph County Firefighters Honor Guard. “We’ve been around about 10 years,” said James Campbell, commander.
The organization represents some 700 firefighters in Randolph County but will serve at funerals and other ceremonies all up and down the East Coast.
Campbell had previously served with the Randolph County Honor Guard, which performs military rites at funerals of veterans. But there was no local group to honor fallen firefighters.
