A house fire displaced a Burlington couple and left four of their five dogs dead early Tuesday morning, April 10.
The couple reported the fire at 229 Rolling Road at 5:08 a.m. They were able to escape because their dogs had alerted them by barking. Only one dog survived.
Firefighters had the fire under control by 6:56 a.m., but smoldering continued until about 1:30 p.m. The fire started in the dining room, but the cause hadn’t been determined, Capt. Jay Mebane said.
Damage was estimated at about $150,000. The Red Cross was contacted to assist the couple.
