The Asheville Fire Department held its Fire Truck Festival downtown, letting people meet local firefighters while raising awareness about a serious problem some of them face.
Festival organizer Tom Tesser said this event educates people about cancer prevention among first responders. "Firefighters are coming down with an aggressive form of cancer, and we just lost a firefighter to liver cancer, and it's tragic," Tesser said.
The event was also about fire trucks, families enjoying music, food--and obstacle courses.
Visitors could take photos alongside a dozen fire trucks from different departments.
