Around 12:30 on Sunday, a Woodfin brush fire that grew to burn 50 acres is completely out, authorities tell News 13. Crews fought the fire off of Baird Cove Road in Woodfin Saturday and Sunday. Officials say it likely started when flames from at least one controlled burn spread into nearby woods. Buncombe County EOC Director Jerry Vehaun confirms there were two controlled burns Saturday. He says that A-B Tech was just wrapping up a supervised training-exercise, and that a neighbor was burning on his own property. Structures that initially were threatened were protected by tanker trucks stationed nearby.
