Firefighters battled a fire for six hours Friday. It damaged three buildings in a strip mall on Walnut Street in the Fairmont area of Robeson County, according to firefighters on scene. Officials said the fire appeared to have started at the Dollar Tree, then spread to the Meat Market business next door. Flames then spread to the True Value hardware store. Viewers sent our ABC sister station WPDE in Myrtle Beach pictures and videos of tall flames coming from the buildings, especially the Dollar Tree, Friday afternoon. One lady said you can see smoke for several miles. State fire officials are investigating the cause of the fire. Fairmont City, Fairmont Rural Orrum, Whitehouse, Raynham, Pine Terrace, Fairmont Rescue and Lumberton Fire Departments all responded to the fire.
