Paying tribute to a hero of 9/11 with a challenging run: the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers 5K run started in downtown Asheville, wound its way up Beaucatcher Mountain, and ended where it began. Siller was an off-duty New York firefighter who ran through the Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel with all his gear, and died in the Twin Towers rescue effort. Among the racers, some local first responders recognized Siller's sacrifice by running in their own full gear."We figured if he suffered, we should. And fire fighting is all about challenge. We challenge each other," said AFD Battalion Chief David Sauer. The goal of the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation is to continue his legacy by supporting first responders and military service members.
